MAXWELL EARP’S UPDATES

Hey everyone,

It’s been an exciting new week full of oodles of writing progress and packed with content so I thought I’d try out a new template for the newsletter (what do you think).

The light at the end of the tunnel has appeared for me recently and it’s really kicked my motivation into gear. Once you get to the end of the letter I’ll give you what I’ve forecast (apparently I’m a weatherman now).

Let’s dive in.

STORY ANALYST REACTS
STRANGER THINGS EPISODE 3 ACTUALLY BROKE ME!

I’m currently on a mission to become the best writer and in order to do that I aim to critically consume my favourite stories and for the last few weeks that has meant watching Stranger Things. This episode brings a lot in the way of building suspense, but what really got me was how the show managed to make me cry, despite the fact I knew what was going to happen next.

Watch if: You’re interested in finding out the fundamental choices that the creators made to have such an impact on me (and its audience).

The Week In A Nutshell

Right then, let’s get into the flow of the week shall we?

MONDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2026

I woke up on this one feeling pumped. Not only did I get eight scenes in the pot last week, but I was about to tackle some of the most exciting parts of the book. Both on an emotional front and on an actioned based front. Needless to say it was so immersive that I sunk 3 whole scenes!

TUESDAY 6TH OCTOBER 2026

This one was a little different. While I managed to edit an entire 6K words, there was one pesky scene in particular that was clocking in at over 4K, so I had to split it in two. That being said, it being one of the main set pieces and all, I made sure to give this one extra love. Hence, I only got 2 scenes finished.

WEDNESDAY 7TH OCTOBER 2026

But the excitement of Act 4 (of 5) doesn’t stop there. No sooner had I finished one set piece, was I moving onto another, that means I finished 3 more scenes with 1 left before I get onto the big finale.

Those mathematicians among you will have found that I matched last weeks progress with 8 whole scenes in the pot!

🎯 PROGRESS NUMBER THIS WEEK: 69%

So let’s talk about my forecast.

I’ve worked out I only have to sink 6 more scenes before I hit that 75% total, meaning that it’s very realistic that two weeks today you’ll finally get access to that sweet synopsis reveal and have an idea as to what this story is actually about!

I’m not promising anything, but watch this space.

Until next week,
Maxwell Earp
